Straight from the Hive

Why Honey?

My quest to formulate with raw honey began when I first learned of its unmatched ability to heal complex wounds and burns in hospital settings. I wanted to create a skincare line where it served as the foundation. You can find honey in many skincare products — but you will not find formulas that maximize its chemistry the way we do at Meadowlake Farm.

I also recognized the unique qualities that raw beeswax and propolis could contribute. That is why all of our creams, salves, and lotions contain beeswax as part of the emulsifying system, and why many of our formulas contain propolis.

Raw Honey

Raw, unprocessed, organic honey is rare in this world — and even rarer in skincare. To obtain it, hives must be managed without the use of any chemicals, and honey must be extracted without heat. Raw honey is rich in antioxidants, live enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and alpha hydroxy acids. It provides vital bioactive nutritional support to the skin, promotes rapid healing and cell turnover, maintains moisture, and protects against environmental stressors.

Raw Beeswax

Raw beeswax serves as a protective barrier against environmental insult. It is a humectant that helps retain moisture and a rich source of vitamin A that promotes cell turnover and repair. Unlike petroleum-based products, it does not block pores. It is anti-inflammatory, promotes tissue repair, and alleviates the irritation associated with dry skin conditions.

Propolis

Propolis facilitates rapid healing, tissue repair, and collagen renewal. It scavenges free radicals that damage skin at the cellular level and is a potent antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal agent.
